Torque Advice
- Know the proper torque spec
- Use common sense... tighten a bolt 'til it snaps, then back it off half a turn
- When in doubt, ask
- Every bolt has a maximum torque spec.
- Some thread types are torqued with oil and some are torqued dry
- Know your materials. Steel can handle more torque than aluminum
- Clean all bolt/ stud threads with tap/ die before assembly
- Know the rod bolt stretch measurements using the proper tool
- De- burr the holes in the deck of an engine before assembly
- There's never time to do it right the first time, but there's always time to do it over
- Fine threads strip easier than coarse threads
