Our Rebuilt Parts

Engines

Our rebuilt engines are made to be as nearly new as possible.  Every moving part is either new or machined and the engines are balanced and line-honed.  Please see our Engine Rebuild page for details on our approach to engine rebuilding..

We paint each engine either to conform to standards for car shows or with enough contrast to be attractive and worthy of your fine renovation.

We spend as much on machining and new parts as some suppliers charge for an entire "rebuilt" engine.  A properly rebuilt engine is expensive enough that you don't want to practice false economies.  ("There's never enough time to do it right but there's always enough time to do it over", as they say...)

In 27 years, we've rebuilt over 160 British engines of various types and we want your Motorhead engine to be the last engine that propels your car.  Nearly all of our rebuilt engines have been built by the same person (Gail) and continuity counts.  As far as we know, all of the engines which we've rebuild are still running down the road.

Our engines take about 5 weeks to rebuild, much of this time is spent in the machine and balance shops.  Usually we need your core to rebuild.

Carburetters

We rebuild all British carburetters including SU and Zenith/Stromberg.  We recommend using and rebuilding the proper, correct carburetters for your car.  Resist the temptation to fit other types of carbs--you won't be happy.  A proper rebuild includes good quality kits, floats, shafts, plates, deceleration-bypass valve kits.  We rebuild carbs once, fully and completely and they should work properly and adjust correctly for many years.

Transmissions

British car gearboxes are mostly well-made and durable.  The non-synchro first gear transmissions do take a beating over the years.  Try to use your brakes to stop the car rather than active downshifting.  Not as fun, perhaps, but not as costly.   We rebuild nearly all British gearboxes and overdrive units.

Steering Racks

Our rebuilt steering racks are properly shimmed and adjusted and include tie-rod ends and rack boots.

Starters, Generators, Alternators

Most of our rebuilt parts are made by us at Motorhead.  Except for starters, generators and alternators, however, which are made to our standards by Arlington Armature, a local rebuilder who cares about making units that last.   You can buy cheaper units, elsewhere, built to a lower price and a lower standard.

Driveshafts

Our rebuilt driveshaft is balanced with 2 new universal joints.  Available with exchange of your core.

 Suspensions

The Motorhead front suspension conversion for the drum-brake Sprite or Midget.  Our rebuilt front suspension conversion includes the a-arm, spindle and kingpin, coil spring, hub rotor, bearings, steering arm, caliper, hose and brackets.  This completely and correctly converts your front drum brake system and suspension.

We rebuild all suspensions--front and rear for your British car.
